For those of you that look for the proof in the details, you find all sorts of "goodies" within. I do try to draw from real life as much as possible. Hammond's is a real ice cream chain in the San Diego area. Junior's Taco Shop where Gregory and Chaz had their talk is a real place. The details of the Padre's game Matthew and April attended were from the game that happened on that calendar date.
I will be continuing to pull real events and locations to include with my fictional East Harbor and characters. I will continue align those events with the days as best as possible. For example, during the upcoming baseball tournament, some of the characters will see the Mariners/Angels series that actually happened that weekend (even if Marty Carlson will be the Mariner's starting 3rd baseman).
I will continue all of that, but I am moving away from including the year and will be changing the actual date to match the dates in the Mayfield Titans series. It will allow Douglas DD and I to move back and forth between our stories without confusing ourselves (and our readers) when a Friday is April 10th in his story and Friday the 13th in mine.
There is an upcoming event that will be between a boy in East Harbor and a boy in Mayfield that will be in both stories from different perspectives (and there will be more like that). So, before we present this, in the next chapter you'll see the date change to match the other story. That way, these events will happen on the same date in both stories.
My apologies for the upcoming discontinuity. I'm working now to adjust upcoming dates for events and scenes I'm writing and it is taking a bit of effort. However, once we all adapt to the date change, I think it will make the crossover events (big and small) more seamless and ultimately result in better experience for our readers.
Hope you are all well! Be well, be safe, and keep reading!
I have some ideas
As an avid fan of all the Mayfield stories (and as a former San Diegan), and as a devoted reader of your work, I think this is really cool! Thanks for all your alignment efforts - and for the local touches you add. Even though East Harbor is fictional, it’s approximately “located” in an area I know and love.
